About Me

Hi! I'm K.J. Mahkêsiw (pronounced MAW-kay-so), a storyteller from Edmonton, Alberta. I use they/them pronouns.

The word above is written in Plains Cree syllabics

and means "Mahkesiw" (fox)

What do I mean by "storyteller"?

I’m really good at organizing an idea into a story with a beginning, middle, and end. Then I take that story and mash it into a graphic, social media campaign, blog post, song, creative writing piece, website copy, and/or voice acting work. More poetically, it means grabbing the world with both hands, shredding down its chaos into manageable pieces, and fusing it back together for a meaningful narrative.

Outside of my creative work, I love reading fantasy novels, watching anime, e-scootering, and eating hotpot. My friends consider me an excitable creature who talks a lot.

By the way, I’m also:

  • Indigenous (Nehiyaw and Danezaa)

  • Transgender (agender/transmasc)

  • Disabled (chronic pain)

  • Neurodivergent (ADHD, C-PTSD)

  • Genderqueer (they/them pronouns)

  • On the asexual spectrum (demisexual)

  • Pansexual

Why am I bringing this up?

They’re all important parts of who I am.

They change my perspective and way of doing things.

They show up a lot in my personal work.

Thank you for taking a moment to learn a bit about me. I appreciate that you’ve visited my website. Hopefully, you managed to rummage around and discover a little spark of joy. While travelling the vast expanses of the Internet, it’s easy forget that behind the websites, follower counts, and “content," it's all just people. Although we’ve never met, I hope you feel that you've found a kindred spirit.

Safe journey, traveller.

Sincerely,
